A Phuket Holiday That's Easy on the Pocket

The beach beckons: the tranquil waters, pristine sands, friendly faces, scrumptious delicacies and the alluring charm of an island paradise called Phuket. Who wouldn't want to experience all these and even more? In Phuket, you can enjoy a sun-kissed vacation spree with friends or family all year round - even while on a budget.

Life's A Beach in Phuket

Phuket is an island-province situated in the southern part of Thailand. Being the biggest island in the country, Phuket has no land boundaries. Instead, it is surrounded by bodies of water. Located on its west side is the Andaman Sea while off its east coast are several bays. The coast of Phuket is known worldwide for its magnificent white sand beaches. Add this to the rich culture and tropical climate of Thailand and you just got yourself a ticket to a perfect vacation.

This tropical paradise is hot and humid throughout the year, with the high season starting from November up to May. Mornings and afternoons can be quite sunny and clear during the summer monsoon season. May to October is considered the cool season but is still great for beach-going. This said, a getaway in Phuket can always be enjoyed come rain or shine.

Enjoy Phuket On A Budget

However, many would-be vacationers are concerned with not having enough funds for a Phuket trip. What should you do when you're on a tight budget? Luckily, there are several ways to enjoy a well-deserved Phuket holiday for the cash-strapped traveler. First of all, you must set a budget. Determine how much you can afford to spend for a Phuket holiday. And when in Phuket, keep track of your spending. Try to maintain a daily budget and work along this figure to keep your costs at bay.

A little tip: tweak your budget in case you overspend. This way, you have that extra little cash to spend around, even get to splurge on that great island souvenir you wish to bring home.

If you are charging with that nifty plastic card of yours, make sure that you are paying off your bills within 90 days to avoid unnecessary interests and other charges.

Book Early

It is also better to book in advance as rates go high during peak months. It's also wise to make your airline reservations early. Saving on cash, however, doesn't mean you have to stay at an el cheapo hotel. If you book early, you can choose which place to stay in at an affordable rate without compromising on the quality of your vacation. Choose establishments that have a high customer feedback satisfaction.

Guide to Wetsuit Selection

The scuba diving wetsuit provides the dual benefit of protection and insulation to the underwater diver. When lounging close to the surface, a wetsuit or even a thin bodysuit for that matter serves as protective barrier against sun exposure and from corals and jellyfish attacks. Now for underwater dives at a depth of at least 30 feet - particularly with the icy thermoclines of temperate diving spots, a thicker, cold water wetsuit is required to effectively insulate the body from chilly temperatures but without compromising the need for mobility when cruising the depths.

Given the benefits of donning a wetsuit, a diver will have to be very discriminating as to the material and quality that goes into its manufacture. After all, its your life as well as recreation that is on the line and you simply can't allow a poor quality or an improperly fitted wetsuit to cause a misadventure.

Here are a few guidelines that would help you choose an appropriate wetsuit for your underwater adventures.

If it's too loose, you will not get properly insulated. Make sure that the neoprene wetsuit snuggly attaches to your body. Otherwise, water and body heat that jointly insulates the body from the chilly temperatures of the depths will seep out from the material and impair the suit's ability to preserve body heat.

If it's too thick, wetsuit may restrict movement. Next to insulation, mobility is a major consideration in the selection of a wetsuit. If you intend to frequent cold water dive spots in temperate regions or planning for a deep sea expedition during the winter months, it would be to your advantage to get a thick wetsuit. In the past, the issue of mobility has always confounded the don of thick wetsuits. These wetsuits tend to restrict diver mobility at a certain thickness and induce stiff movements as the diver maneuvers the depths. Thicker wetsuits may provide better insulation but the trade-off in terms of mobility should be taken into account. Thanks to modern technology, wetsuits designed with a torso thickness of 4 can now achieve the flexibility of a wetsuit with a torso thickness of 2.

Get one that is outfitted with spandex fibers. The neoprene material of the wetsuit may offer effective insulation but it is also likely to shrink over time. Integrating spandex fibers into the suit's panel increases material flexibility, contradicts neoprene shrinkage and makes it easier to make adjustments in the future.

Purchase from a reliable wetsuit and other scuba gear manufacturer. Aeris offers a durable line of scuba wetsuits for both men and women. Choose from a selection of jumpsuit, back-zip jumpsuit or shortie that are available at an extensive size range.

Phuket is one of the biggest islands in Thailand, located in the Amdaman Sea off the southern coast of the country. The island is rugged with a mountain range present in the west of the island. The mountains in Phuket Thailand grace the southern end of the island, stretching about 440km from Kra Isthmus. Mai Thao Sip Song, which stands at 529m, the highest point in Phuket.

Phuket has a total area of about 570 square kilometres and the main island is about 50km in length and 20km wide. About 60% of the land is covered in forest, rubber and oil plantations.

There are several beaches along both the coasts of the island. The western coast is covered by sandy beaches, whereas the beaches in the eastern coast are muddy. In the southernmost part of Phuket is Laem Promthep, which is a spectacular sunset viewpoint.

Schengen Visa in Thailand

A Schengen Visa allows the holder to freely visit all member nations of the Schengen Agreement. The Schengen Agreement was originally signed between just five countries in Europe. However, since that time the number has grown to 25 member nations including; Austria, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherland, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. By obtaining the most popular and common type of Schengen Visa, Category C, an individual is allowed to stay in any of these nations for 90 days within a period of 6 months. This means that a person can stay up to 90 days in any of these nations and freely move between them without having to obtain different visas for each country. While those 90 days do not have to be consecutive they are only available for the six month period after first entering a Schengen Nation. There a number of different types of Schengen Visas available in Thailand to individuals who complete the necessary application process.

· Category A Visa: Some nationals are required to have this visa allowing the individual to travel through the international transit areas of Schengen Nations airports. However, this does not apply to Thai citizens and is most likely not necessary for travelers.

· Category B Visa: This visa allows individuals to single, double or multiple transits to Schengen Nations for a period of 5 days of less.

· Category C Visa: This visa is the most popular type of Schengen visas and provides the individual holder the ability to travel within Schengen Nations without obtaining additional visas. · Category D Visa: This visa is issued by individual Schengen Nation and allows a holder to stay in that country for the length of time provided by that individual nation. The holder of this visa may travel within other Schengen Nations for up to 90 days within the six month period of first arriving.

· Category FTD and FRTD: These visas are only special visas for road and rail lines between Mainland Russia and Kalingrad Oblast which borders the Baltic Sea.

Filing Documents: To complete an application for a Category C Schengen Visa the following documents should be provided:

2. A passport and a copy of that passport. The passport must be valid for at least three months after the planned return from Schengen Nations

6. Documents showing travel arrangements, accommodations and related materials that show that the trip will be temporary.

7. If you are staying at another person's residence in a Schengen Nation it might be necessary to bring an invitation from the individual you are staying with in order to verify your accommodations.

General Process: Once these documents are prepared an individual must complete a brief filing process. First, you must go to the embassy or consulate of the Schengen Nation that you intend to spend the majority of your time in. If that is unknown you could go to the Embassy or consult of the Schengen country you will first arrive in. Second, you must submit the documents listed above to the necessary station and pay the €60 filing fee (approximately THB 3,000.) This is usually the final step, but occasionally an interview will be requested to ask about your visit. A visa will usually be issued within in 4-5 business days after submission; the process can take longer if an interview is required.

Note:

· If the Schengen Nation that you are planning to spend the majority of your time in does not have an embassy or consulate in the country you are residing in you should contact the Schengen Nation that represents the other Nation for purposes of visas.

· Meeting the above requirements and completing the filing process does not guarantee a visa as approval is up to the discretion of the reviewing officer.

Conclusion: Making an application for a Schengen Visa in Thailand is the most convenient and effective way for a Thai national to travel through Europe. It allows an Thai national up to 90 days of travel to all Schengen Nations within a six month period. The visa is truly a 25 nation tourist visa that is provided to an individual who meet minimum requirements and file the appropriate application.

Finding Reputable Scuba Diving Classes

Scuba diving is not for the faint of heart. Nor is it for people with no time for studying. It must be learned, practiced and the skills have to be honed in order for you to master it. You must not be afraid to spare money in finding reputable scuba diving classes because these scuba diving classes will be of utmost benefit to you in the long run.

What is good about scuba classes is that you can find it almost anywhere. Whether you live in a small town or you prefer to stay in the big city, it is easy finding reputable diving classes even though you are not near the ocean. So forget your worries about not living near the ocean. Diving classes are often held in a pool facility to minimize injuries.

A controlled environment will give instructors the liberty to teach properly and minimize accidents. Since you are just learning the basics, you do not have to dive in the ocean right away. For a novice who is just starting out, a pool will be much more inviting and less intimidating than the ocean. When you have learned the basics and mastered it, you will find that the ocean is not so overwhelming after all.

The first thing to consider in your journey in finding reputable scuba diving classes is to confirm and ask around about the reputation of the classes that are offered within the proximity of your residence. It is important to receive lessons from certified instructors and who actually practice what they preach. A good instructor is not good if he only has a little experience and bases everything else on the book. Ask people who have taken scuba diving lesson before and perhaps they can refer you to an instructor that they trust.

You can visit pool facilities and ask them if they offer scuba diving classes. Most of the time, you can try to sit-in an ongoing class just to get the feel of how the classes go. You can feel your way around if the particular system as well as the instructor works for your needs. You can watch the students train and see if you can find yourself among their group.

As for equipment, most reputable scuba diving classes can give you equipment that you can use. Of course you can choose to use their gear or buy your own. However, it is important to remember that if you really want to take this sport seriously you will have to invest in the proper gear.

The most valuable thing that you will take home from finding reputable scuba lesson and taking part in their training is the confidence to brave the waves and the water. You have to feel comfortable in the environment that you are in to ensure that you will learn everything that you need to know in order to prepare you for your next big adventure in the vast ocean.

10 Tips For Choosing an Immersion Suit

If you need an immersion suit, then it's essential that you get the right one, and that it meets your needs, even though you'll hope that you never need it.

Here's what you should look for.

1. An immersion suit is mandatory in many jobs, such as those who travel on or across water, such as pilots, sailors, and those on fishing vessels, gas and oil rigs. You'll need to make sure that you have one that is going to be suitable for the type of conditions you're going to be in.

2. It's essential that your immersion suit is designed to increase the chances of you surviving in water. If you need to abandon a sinking vessel, or survive a plane crash then you'll want to reduce the risk of hyperthermia.

3. It's important that your survival suit has both internal and external buoyancy so that you can stay afloat for longer. You might be floating for several hours, and so you'll need all the help you can get.

4. Having additional insulation to keep you warm is a good idea. As well as staying afloat, you'll want to stay as warm as possible if you find yourself in the cold sea.

5. Your immersion suit needs to be a good fit, so that it gives you the support and protection you need in an emergency.

6. You'll want a suit that has have gloves, a hood and booties to keep your extremities warm. You don't want to lose the feeling in your hand or feet, and you don't want to risk your head going underwater.

7. It's a good idea to practice putting on your immersion suit in all conditions, and in the day and at night. You'll need to be able to put it on very quickly, and you can't afford to get it wrong when you need to wear it.

8. Even though you might never need to wear it, it's essential that your immersion suit is stored where it can be easily accessed. A bulky suit will offer more thermal protection and buoyancy, but might be harder to store.

9. Although it's highly unlikely you'll need to abandon a vessel, or need to wear your immersion suit in an emergency, you'll want to know that you've got the right one, and that you have the best chance of survival and being found.

10. Because you can't put a cost on a life, it's essential that you get the right immersion suit to meet your needs, and that is right for the industry you're in, and the environment that you're likely to find yourself in. You won't want to be in a life or death situation where you regret your choice of survival suit.

Now you know what to look for, and why it so important you get it right, you'll be able to buy the right immersion suit.

If you need an Immersion Suit you can't afford to get it wrong. You'll want to make sure that you have everything you need to increase your chances of staying alive if you end up in the water. Before You Go Scuba Diving Make Sure You Have All Of The Basic Diving Equipment

Scuba diving is a fabulous sport to get involved in, but there is a down side - the equipment isn't cheap. If you're planning to do a lot of scuba diving, then you also need to allow for the costs of buying your own equipment.

When you're many meters under the surface of the ocean, you need to be confident that you have the right gear and that it won't break down unexpectedly. So buying good quality scuba diving equipment is important. Still, if you spend some time looking around, it's possible to still buy good gear at cheaper prices. You're going to need a few things, so if you manage to save some dollars, even if it's only on some of your gear, it all helps.

One piece of equipment you need is your mask. This is your window on the underwater world, so make sure it fits snugly and gives you a clear view. Over time a mask does tend to get scratched, so this is one piece of equipment you might not want to buy second hand. You also need a regulator, to help you breathe underwater. Basically, it takes the compressed air in your scuba tanks and reduces the pressure down to a level that is breathable. It only delivers air when you inhale, so that you don't waste the air in your tanks.

Another important piece of equipment is your buoyancy control device, or BCD. It's worn like a vest, and contains an expandable bladder that you inflate with air from your tank as you're diving. This is mandatory, because as you dive deeper, the water pressure increases. So unless you can increase your buoyancy at that point, you will start to sink like a stone.

Unless you're only diving in shallow, warm tropical waters, you're going to want a wet suit. This works efficiently to keep your body temperature at normal levels. The wet suit helps your body to deal with the increased water pressure at depths and also the colder temperatures. Some people are comfortable with a body suit, so that may suit you better. Either way, you end up with a skintight outfit that clings closely to your body.

Again, unless you're only diving in shallow water, you'll need a torch. You can pay anything from $20 right through to thousands of dollars for an underwater torch, so do your research. Having a good torch, though, really makes it easier to see the beauty that's hidden beneath the water. The deeper you go, the less sunlight, and so the less color. It can be quite astounding to look at a bland, brown piece of coral deep under the ocean, only to highlight it with a torch and see it blaze with color.

Most scuba divers like to carry a knife. It's not an essential item, but can be used for digging or prying things. Remember to check whether it's okay to disturb the natural fauna where you're diving. A knife isn't meant to be used as a weapon underwater, unless it's absolutely necessary.

If you're not sure exactly what you need, head for your nearest scuba store and start asking questions. They will be able to assist you with choosing the right gear for your level of experience and the type of diving you're expecting to do.
