Thailand - The Land of Smiles

Thailand, or the 'land of smiles', is one of the most exotic places to visit for tourists on the face of the planet. Thailand will definitely be in the list of '10 places to visit before I die' for many. Why is Thailand so popular and one of the most visited countries in the world? There is more than one reason for that.

Not for nothing do they call Thailand the 'land of smiles'. There is a good reason why the country has by christened by that name. Thai's are one of those who are known for their hospitality and well mannered behavior. These people are very good at heart and make sure that all the people who visit their country have the best time of their life. This is a very good reason to visit Thailand but there are more in the list of 'why you should visit Thailand'.

The rich culture and history that Thailand flaunts is another factor that makes it traveled by number of people every year. There are numerous temples beholding some unique history within them. The Grand Palace and the temple of Emerald Buddha in Bangkok are worth a visit. From there, weather you travel North to the Chiang Mai or South towards Phuket, you will come across temples with distinct history that teaches various aspects of Thai culture. Ayutthaya ruins is another major tourist spot and is UNESCO's world heritage spot. However there are more than temples and ruins in Thailand to visit.

Mountainous rainforest of the north thrills many. If you are interested in trekking Jungles and looking for some real adventure, you can get it in Chiang Mai. You will also have the privilege to visit small but beautiful Thai villages with people who may go out of their way to make your Thailand experience a one to remember. If you are looking for some serenity, you better head towards South. Southern Thailand offers you some of the most pristine beaches you will ever come across in the East. Koh Phi Phi is one of the most popular beaches in Thailand. This is the same beach that has been portrayed in the Di Caprio starring movie, The Beach.

Shopping is another reason why people would visit Thailand. Bangkok is becoming shoppers stop for many around the world. There are gigantic shopping malls all around the city with some great prices that they offer for their products. Siam, Paragon and Central World are the names of the biggest shopping malls in Bangkok, if you want to do some branded shopping. Having been done with the malls, do not forget to miss out the weekend Chatuchak market, which is the biggest open market in the world with more than 15,000 stalls and hundreds of thousands of people visiting the market.

All these factors attract visitors from all around the world and there is no wonder that Thailand is such a 'must visit' place. Everyone should visit Thailand at least once in their lifetime.

What You Need to Know About US Tourist Visa Application

While it is easy for Americans to come to Thailand for a holiday, Thais and other nationalities have to undergo a thorough procedure in obtaining a tourist visa that they may be able to enter the US for vacation.

Nature of a Tourist Visa Obtaining a travel permit to visit the US proves to be very difficult to obtain particularly for ordinary Thai applicants relying on the invitation of their American friends, fiancé, spouse or relatives. The US government's rigorous immigration procedure may be accounted for their inherent assumption when dealing with non-immigrant visa applications. The officer when evaluating the application immediately assumes that the tourist visa applicant who is seeking admittance to the US is in fact eyeing for a permanent stay in the country.

As such, this assumption needs to be overcome successfully by the applicant in such a way that he/she will be issued the necessary entry permit. However, it's important to note that the application is evaluated subjectively and its approval or denial is entirely on the discretion of the officer evaluating the application. This is the reason why compared to other entry permit types a tourist visa has a lower success rate. It is also the reason why an application is still denied despite the applicant's providing all the necessary requirements to substantiate his/her visit to the US.

Preparing for the Application As the evaluation of the tourist visa application is solely based on the applicant's capacity to prove that he can support himself financially through out his stay in the US and that he comes back to Thailand after his allowed visit, it's a must that the applicant has the following qualifications in support of his entry permit application. First would be a decent and a stable job in Thailand.

An employment letter or contract, income tax and pay slips are some ways to substantiate this. A 6-month job stint might not be enough to establish the stability of your employment but it's definitely better than nothing. A job involving prostitution or working in a bar or night club doesn't add appeal to your application so it might not be good declaring it. Second, you have to show assets and properties in Thailand. Assets can be in the form of cars, a piece of land, a house among others. Land or House Title deed, Mortgage agreement, Car registration certificate and other documents can be submitted to prove your possession of these assets. Supposing you own a business in Thailand, you would need to show your business registration certificate, income tax, balance sheet among others. A savings account with substantial amount of deposit in it could also serve as one of the evidence to prove your financial capability.

You can ask your bank for your latest 6-month bank statements or you can show your passbooks for this matter. Just a note on the savings account, having a big money in your bank account doesn't guarantee a successful application though it helps establish your financial status. However, if your sponsor abroad plans depositing an amount of money in your bank account just to show that you have money, make sure that the funds have been deposited discretely not in a lump sum as this will be obvious.

Finally, if you have your family or children in Thailand, then you can mention them as your dependants to support your visa application. Don't also miss to provide an outline of your itinerary detailing the whereabouts of your trips i.e. accommodation and places to visit. What if you don't have most of the above qualifications as you rely on the sponsorship of your American relative, boyfriend or friend? This would considerably make your chances even more slimmer. However, you can still proceed with the application. As mentioned above the approval or denial of your application is entirely on the discretion of the officer. For family members visiting their relatives or families in the US their situations are viewed differently.

The Application Process After familiarizing yourself with the requirements and procedure of the tourist entry permit application, you may now start collecting the required documents. You have to collect as many evidence as you can to support your application. If your documents are in Thai, make sure to translate them into English. If you are going to the US via sponsorship, make sure that your sponsor provides sponsorship letter detailing your relationship and his intention to support you while you are in the US. He might need to provide bank statements or employment certificate to validate his good financial status in the US.

When everything is in order you can already contact the US embassy to schedule the submission of your documents and for the interview. The US embassy in Bangkok as well as the US consulate in Chiang Mai accepts and processes tourist visa applications. The processing time normally takes 2-3 business days and the result of the application is issued accordingly. During the interview, be prepared to answer questions like how will you support your stay in the US, what will you do in the US among others. A confident applicant would likely give a better impression on the visa officer than a nervous one. In this regard, you have to anticipate all possible questions that the officer may ask you in relation to your visa application and practice answering them. Using a Visa Agent

If you want to increase the chances of your tourist visa application getting approved, it might be good enlisting the services of US visa professionals to assist you with this endeavor. You would greatly benefit from their expertise in going over the visa application therefore ensuring better chances for your visa application. Be mindful though about unscrupulous visa agents. Look for the established and registered ones with proven track of record in US visa assistance.

Summary

Obtaining a US tourist visa proves to be a difficult ordeal especially for ordinary applicants. Apart from proper planning and familiarizing yourself with the requirements and procedure, it would also be good to consult with US visa professionals to personally guide you with the visa application. A money you spend for them maybe worth it if you don't need to do the application again the second time.

Thailand, The Breathtaking Country

The Kingdom of Thailand lies in the heart of Southeast Asia, spread across 513,115 square kilometers. It is equal to the size of France and a little smaller than Texas. The capital of Thailand is Bangkok. Other cities of Thailand are Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai and Muang.

To make a very interesting trip to an unforgettable place, Thailand is a nice option to think over. You can see the famous ruins of kingdoms. The culture in Thailand is highly influenced by two countries, India and China. English is commonly spoken here so you will not find a communication problem there.

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Udon and Ubon are the main cities of Thailand. Patong, Karon beach in Phuket, Pattaya, Khao Lak, chiang mai and Sukhothai Historical Park are famous places to visit. In the heartland of Thailand you'll have the opportunity to trek, explore lost kingdoms, ride elephants, walk with tigers, raft and visit, and even stay with, hill tribe people!

Thailand has a tropical climate. It is usually sunny from February to May, with an average temperature of 34 degree Celsius. This period is the hottest time of the year in Thailand. Monsoon arrives around the month of June. Plenty of rainfall coupled with sunshine is the typical climate in Thailand from June to October.

The temperature is moderate and usually hovers around 29 degree Celsius. November to January is the best time of the year with a temperature of 28 degree Celsius. Compared to other parts, the northern and northeastern part of the county experiences cooler temperatures during evening and nighttime.

All of that make Thailand is great value; an outstandingly beautiful country; the people are warm and welcoming; it offers a multitude of outdoor activities; it's home to wonderful ruins of ancient kingdoms as well as present day temples; the food is out of this world and the country has some of the finest beaches on the planet.

Is Phuket Still Worth a Visit?

If you were to pay attention to expat forums and travel websites, you'd soon come to the conclusion that Phuket wasn't worth visiting. Long-time expats and grumpy travelers have been known to paint a very gloomy picture of Phuket. It's the same old story: over development has spoiled the beaches, there are too many people, everything is expensive and it just ain't like it used to be. All of this is true, to an extent, but only if you choose to hang out in the island's tourist traps.

A visit to Phuket can be as lovely or as depressing as you want it to be. Spending a week in Patong in the hopes of finding a secluded beach paradise would put most people off a return trip to the island, but with a little thought and planning ahead, it's easy enough to suss out a few of the better spots to visit.

On the other hand, if you want a holiday chock full of rowdy nightlife, late-night discos, a reasonable beach and lots of tourists, Patong could be just what you need. There's no denying that the beach resort can be a lot of fun if not taken too seriously, but let's face it, most people go to an island to enjoy the sun, sea and sand.

Kata and Karon are two beaches that are less crowded than Patong and a whole lot more appealing. Accommodation at these two beach spots is reasonably priced and it's easy enough to travel from one part of the island to another. The best way to get around is, of course, by hiring a motorbike, but there are taxis and tuk-tuks that will ferry travelers around for over-the-top prices.

So if the island's most popular area is worth giving a miss, you might be wondering if there are enough other decent spots to still make a trip to Phuket memorable. There are lots of beautiful areas of Phuket, some better known than others. Phuket Town may not have a beach, but it's still a place that should be checked out, if only for the good food and lazy vibes. It's also a transport hub, with regular links to most of the island's beaches and other points of interest.

If you're keen to see some of Phuket's beaches, find your way to Yanui Beach or take a trip to Coconut Island, just off the east coast. Mai Khao Beach is another good one, although for the most part it is so deserted that there isn't even anyway to buy a cool drink.

Phuket has changed a lot over the past 20 years, but that doesn't mean it should be scratched off travelers' itineraries. Just don't listen to the jaded long-timers.

Visit Thailand - Visit Similan Islands

The Similan Islands are just about 84 kms northwest of Phuket in the blue crystal waters of the Andaman Sea. The islands have become popular with tourists because of their clear blue waters, especially among divers. The most interesting spots, therefore, seems to be found beneath the waves. Many spectacular coral growths in the world can be found here.

The Similan Islands have become just as popular in their own right because of the low-lying formations covered with thick forests of Ironwood and gum trees. The islands are also home to many types of animals as well as endangered animals.

The Similan Islands consist of ten small islands. The first island is Hu-Yong or Koh Nueng (Koh means island in Thai). Koh Nueng has got a white sandy beach and is the longest beach from all other islands. It is a place for sea turtles for laying their eggs, and it is a good place for deep diving.

The second island is Pa-Young or Koh Song. There is no beach on this island. So, it is just a good site of deep diving and snorkeling. The third island is Pa-Youn or Koh Sam. Also, there is no beach on this island. Generally, people call this island "The Great Wall Island" as there is a rock formation just like the wall under the sea around the island. Lots of beautiful fishes are swimming around the wall including barracuda. This island is a good spot for deep diving.

Tourists can walk through the evergreen forest to reach this beach as well as can get a good opportunity to study the nature of the forest within the area. Koh See is a great spot for snorkeling, deep diving, nature studying, bird watching, beach activities, and sightseeing.

The fifth island is Koh Haa. It is just a small island, but it is a great spot for diving. On this island, there is white-gray eel that it loves to show itself out of its hole which it can not be found on the other islands. There are lots of corals around the island. This island is a great place for deep diving.

The sixth island is Pa-You or Koh Hok. The island is full of rocks and cliffs. There is a beach on the east side of the island with a wide area of living corals. It is a good sport for deep diving.

The seventh island is Pu-Sa or Koh Jed. This island is a great site for deep diving as its geographical area provided. Lots of beautiful and colorful fishes are living around this island. Tourists may be able to see sea turtles and Sting rays.

The eighth island is Similan or Koh Pad. It is the biggest island out of ten islands of Similan Islands group. There is a small curve bay on the north of the island called horseshoe bay which there are full of corals and beautiful fishes. The sea is very clear which is good for swimming and snorkeling. On the east side of the island, there is a big rock in Boot shape and Fantasy Rock which are symbols of the island. This island is a great spot for snorkeling, deep diving, nature studying, and camping.

The ninth island is Ba-Ngu or Koh Koaw. General geographic of the island is rocks and cliffs. "Christmas point" is well known for deep diving site for divers and is situated on the east side of the island.

Types of Mutual Funds

It is imperative to comprehend the fact that every mutual fund as its own separate paths of rewards and risks. The more you expect in return, the more risk there is involved in the fund-it is the same with almost everything in life. All types of mutual funds have risks involved with them even though some might have a lower level of risk than others. You can never get rid of all the risks-a tried and true statement of investment.

Money market is one of the types of mutual funds that are less risky than most of the other funds out there. You would not get anything huge as a return investment but then you can sleep at night knowing that your principal is safe.

Balanced funds are meant to give an overall mix of income, capital appreciation and safety. The main strategy here is to invest in combinations of equities and fixed income funds; the usual weighting being 40% fixed income and 60% equity. However, the weighting can have restrictions to a specific minimum or maximums for class asset.

Equity funds are funds that represent the biggest category of funds. The main objective here is to gain capital growth in the long run, along with an income of sorts. Global funds or international funds can be invested anywhere in the world. International funds are more volatile than others and entail unique political and country risks thus it becomes difficult to classify them as safer or riskier than local or domestic investments.

How Safe is Phuket For Travel?

Phuket is one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations, and yet visitor numbers are well down on previous year. The beaches and streets in Phuket are quiet and businesses are beginning to feel the strain. Thailand's political problems have been well documented by the media, so much so that the country is portrayed as being in complete anarchy. Although the problems have been centered in Bangkok, they have impacted Phuket. But what's the reality of the situation? Should tourists be wary of traveling to Phuket?

The short answer is "no". For a bit of perspective, Thailand has had numerous problems over the years, from coups to bombings. However, it was only the tsunami that really affected tourism in the long run. Thailand's internal problems usually create a few short-term ripples and the media writes of chaos in the streets, but for people living in Thailand, they will tell you that life goes on as usual.

In Phuket, tourism is way down. Hotels are nowhere near full and people on the island are saying that the effect on the industry will be worse in the long term than the tsunami. It's such a dire situation, but it's also completely unnecessary. Travel advisory warnings also don't help.

If you were to visit Phuket right now you'd see a peaceful island. There are no more dangers than normal and everything is safe. There's no fighting in the streets and tourists aren't being victimized or attacked. In fact, there's probably never been a better time to visit Phuket because the island is less crowded than usual.

The beaches are still there and the popular sites are waiting for visitors to trickle in. Of course, travelers should still exercise the same caution they would when visiting Phuket any time of the year. Traveling alone on a motorcycle at night isn't a good idea and care should be taken when out and about. But don't let the news reports put you off a trip to Phuket.

It's a sad state of affairs, but hotel-booking websites have been reporting a huge decline in bookings. The same is true of airlines, who are now throwing out offers left, right and center to entice people to visit Thailand. There are bargains to be snapped up at the moment.

So if Phuket is safe for tourists, then what about Bangkok, where most of the trouble has been? There have been protests and airport closures and all sorts. However, unless you had a plane to catch during that time, if you were in Bangkok, you wouldn't have noticed much out of the ordinary other than when you turned on the news. Everything carried on as usual. It always does.

After the most recent coup, the tanks and soldiers became a tourist attraction. The resultant protests were mostly jovial affairs with picnics and concerts. Some media reports were speculating that Thailand was about to become a bloodbath, similar to revolutions of the past, but such events didn't materialize.

Forums, blogs and phone lines have been inundated with people asking if Phuket is still safe for travel. It is safe, and it likely will be for a long time to come.
